Best of the Triangle!

Posted on June 22, 2013

THANK YOU to all the High Strung supporters who voted for us in the Indy Week’s Best of the Triangle competition this year. We are so honored that you voted us Best Place to Buy a Musical Instrument for the 3rd year in a row!

This year, for the first time we were able to set up our Petting Zoo at the Best of the Triangle Festival at the old ball park in downtown Durham. This was a truly delightful event. It was very exciting to be surrounded by fellow local businesses, some of whom we learned of for the first time! (Shout out to La Farm, the best bakery I’d never heard of!) What was most clear to me during the festival was what good company we are in. Durham was hopping last Saturday. The very powerful 9th annual NC Juneteenth Celebration took place, holding a march  “for the eradication of modern-day forms of bondage – gangs, drugs, high drop-out/suspension rates, poverty, etc,” and celebrating strength in unity and the vibrant, rich culture of the African American community. New Belgium Brewery’s Tour De Fat bike festival in town, raising funds for the North Carolina Active Transportation Alliance (bike transit!) and Triangle Spokes and the Durham Bike Co-Op (bike accessibility!) with silly bike parades and plenty of good beer. The Indy’s Best of the Triangle Festival was the icing on the cake, celebrating businesses that work for the community with more good food and beer as well as local bands.

We couldn’t ask for a better community to be a part of. We are so proud to make our home in funky, diverse, dirty Durham.
